On December 8, 2024, the Deen Arts Foundation of South Africa proudly hosted its first hybrid event, bringing together the public and students to explore the fascinating world of the Qalam. Attendees joined us both in person and online, eager to learn more about this essential tool in calligraphy.
We were honoured to have Hajji Noor Deen join us from China, sharing his inspiring words and wisdom with participants. His insights added a unique depth to the event, encouraging all to appreciate the artistry behind the Qalam.
Farzana Razzaque Hoca connected with us online from the United States for an in-depth interview about the Qalam, its uses and the various styles and techniques involved. Participants were actively engaged, asking insightful questions that sparked meaningful discussions.
Ustaadha Zulfar Tofie Samodien graced us with an in-person demonstration on how to cut a Qalam. This hands-on experience was a highlight for those attending in person, who also had the opportunity to have their Qalams cut and sized perfectly by Ustaadha herself.
Additionally, calligraphy tools were available for purchase, allowing attendees to take home a piece of the experience. Alhamdulillah, the event was a resounding success and we are grateful to everyone who joined us, whether in person or online.
Jazakallah khair for being a part of this enriching experience! We hope you enjoyed the insightful interview and the demonstration.
