Tezhip (Illumination) is the art of decorating by using gold and other earth based paints. In Arabic tezhip means “gilding” because of the extensive use of gold by early artists.
The ability to make gold paint, using gold leaf, made from real gold, is nowadays confined to institutes that teach Tezhip. It requires demonstration and practice under the supervision of a teacher, in this case our esteemed Fatma Ulusoy Sirajuddin Hoca, to grasp the intricacies of making good quality gold paint. This intensive is aimed at anyone who wants to learn this skill.
Fatma Ulusoy Sirajuddin Hoca is a certified Tezhip Master teacher from Turkey who studied under renowned Tezhip Master Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak since 2015. Her work has adorned the compositions of several master calligraphers, and she has participated in multiple tezhip exhibitions.
